UNM Gastroenterology and Hepatology serves more than 10,000 patients each year across three state-of-the-art facilities in Albuquerque. Each location is staffed by our expert team of physicians, fellows, and clinical staff, and is equipped to deliver the full spectrum of GI care — from routine outpatient visits to advanced interventional procedures.
UNM Center for Digestive Diseases (CDD) — UNM Hospitals, Lomas Campus
The UNM Center for Digestive Diseases at UNM Hospitals is our flagship academic medical center facility and the hub of our clinical, research, and training programs. The CDD is recognized by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) for high-quality endoscopic care — a distinction that reflects our commitment to safety, outcomes, and continuous improvement.
Who is seen here: This facility serves both inpatients and outpatients with complex, multifaceted GI and liver conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease and liver transplant evaluation, motility disorders, pancreatic and biliary diseases, colorectal cancer, esophageal and gastric diseases, small intestinal diseases, and malabsorptive disorders. Patients are seen by referral from primary care providers, specialists, and the UNM Hospital inpatient service. Sedation includes MAC sedation and General Anesthesia provided by our highly qualified anesthesia team, as well as moderate or conscious sedation.

- Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (EGD)
- Capsule endoscopy
- Pancreatic and biliary endoscopy including EUS and ERCP
- Advanced endoscopic procedures (ESD, EMR, POEM, RFA, enteral stenting, endoluminal suturing, small bowel enteroscopy, TIF etc.)
Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center — GI Endoscopy Center
The GI Endoscopy Center at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center is one of the most comprehensive veteran-focused GI facilities in the region. UNM Gastroenterology physicians and fellows provide expert GI care to our nation's veterans in a modern, purpose-built endoscopy suite.
Who is seen here: This facility exclusively serves veterans enrolled in VA healthcare. Veterans with GI symptoms, those requiring screening colonoscopy, and those needing advanced endoscopic evaluation or treatment are seen at this location.
Eligibility: VA-enrolled veterans only. Contact your VA primary care provider for a GI referral.

- Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (EGD)
- Capsule endoscopy
- Pancreatic and biliary endoscopy including EUS and ERCP
- Advanced endoscopic procedures including EMR, POEM, and ESD
- Esophageal and anorectal manometry — performed in two dedicated GI motility suites

UNM Digestive Disease Center
The UNM Digestive Disease Center outpatient clinic offers convenient access to the full range of GI diagnostic and therapeutic services in a dedicated outpatient setting. This facility is designed for patient comfort and efficiency, with shorter wait times and easy parking for routine and follow-up care.
Who is seen here: This location is ideal for patients who have been referred for outpatient GI evaluation, routine screening procedures, follow-up visits, and non-urgent diagnostic testing. Both new and established patients are welcome. Patients who can tolerate moderate or conscious sedation can undergo procedures at this facility.

UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center
UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center (SRMC) in Rio Rancho brings the expertise of UNM Gastroenterology to the communities of Sandoval County and Northwest New Mexico — closer to home. As a campus of UNM Hospital, SRMC combines the personalized attention of a community hospital with the academic resources and clinical standards of UNM. UNM Gastroenterology physicians provide GI endoscopy services at SRMC, ensuring patients in the Rio Rancho area receive the same high-quality care available at our main Albuquerque locations.
Who is seen here: This location is ideal for patients in Sandoval County, Rio Rancho, and surrounding communities — including patients from Native American Pueblos and Tribal lands in Northwest New Mexico — who prefer a convenient local option for routine GI care and screening procedures. Sedation includes MAC sedation and General Anesthesia provided by our highly qualified anesthesia team, as well as moderate or conscious sedation
