Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Services at School-Based Health Clinics

UNM Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows provide specialty psychiatric care at participating UNM School-Based Health Clinics under faculty supervision.

Services May Include:

• Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation of emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns
• Evaluation and treatment of conditions such as:
  • ADHD
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression and other mood disorders
  • Trauma- and stress-related disorders
  • Behavioral and emotional dysregulation
  • Other common childhood and adolescent psychiatric conditions
• Medication evaluation and management, when clinically appropriate
• Brief, focused psychotherapy and behavioral interventions
• Suicide and safety risk assessment for students scheduled during the fellow’s assigned SBHC clinic session
• Education for students and families about psychiatric diagnoses and treatment options
• Collaboration with parents/caregivers, school personnel, therapists, primary care clinicians, and other members of the student’s treatment team, as appropriate and with necessary consent
• Recommendations and referrals for additional behavioral health, developmental, educational, or community services when indicated

Services Not Provided

• Neuropsychological testing
• Psychoeducational or formal psychological testing
• Formal testing for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADOS)
