Choose a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) for prenatal care and childbirth, postpartum care, well-gynecologic and reproductive healthcare. CNMs are supportive partners who respect the natural journey your body takes through pregnancy and birth. As your coach and advocate, your midwife gets to know you and your loved ones while providing high-quality care that reflects your values and preferences.

UNM midwives hold advanced degrees, certification, and licensure in New Mexico. Over the years, they have attended the births of thousands of infants at UNM Hospital. Our team has the experience to safely guide you through pregnancy and childbirth and help you have the kind of labor and birth that is important to you.

Comprehensive Care Through Pregnancy

Your midwife will help care for your physical, emotional, and mental needs during your pregnancy and postpartum.

You can rely on your midwife to:

  • Listen to your concerns and answer your questions
  • Regularly monitor your pregnancy’s progress
  • Order and review lab tests and ultrasounds
  • Provide prenatal care and postpartum care, well-gynecologic exams, reproductive health counseling, and more

If you have a high-risk pregnancy and would like to work with a midwife, an obstetrician will provide additional support.
