Program Description

The Peer Living Room is a safe place for individuals to connect with Certified Peer Support Workers. Within the Peer Living Room, individuals will have access to resources and support, and ability to work on short term recovery goals in a welcoming and non-clinical environment. All new and existing UNMH individuals, regardless of insurance status or type, may use Peer Living Room services.

*Peer Support Workers are individuals who are in recovery from their own mental illness and/or substance use disorder and who wish to assist others entering recovery through that process. Peers aim to serve as models for healthy recovery, provide mentoring and coaching, connect people to services and community supports, help in the process of establishing new social networks and support and individual's well-being, while providing an example of hope and support.

Services Provided

  • Peer 1:1 or Individual Support
  • Assistance in completing psychiatric advance directives and safety plans
  • Community outreach and education
  • Referrals to community resources and providers
  • Support with online resources (computer and printer access)
  • Safe place to relax and recharge between outpatient appointments and services Peer Support Groups operating daily, Monday-Friday

Daily Support Groups

  • 10 a.m. - Skills Group
  • 1 p.m. - Support Group
  • 3 p.m. - Art Group

Referral Process

A referral or appointment is not needed. Peer Living Room services are available on a walk-in basis during regular program hours.
