Community Mental Health
We are the largest community mental health provider in the state and offer advanced treatments for a range of behavioral health disorders. We are the only center in New Mexico that offers neuromodulation – an advanced suite of therapies for treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Diverse State, Unique Care
UNM behavioral health partners with Bernalillo County, the city of Albuquerque, along with state and local communities, to address New Mexico’s unique needs, including implementation of programs for Native Americans.
Our teams treat mental health disorders in vulnerable populations, including teens at risk for self-harm, those at risk for incarceration, and the homeless. We conduct needs assessment to determine the best course of personalized care for you or your loved ones.
Beyond behavioral care, we provide patients and families with referrals, help with housing andSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and serve as a guide through the whole recovery process.

Getting Help Right Away
If you are experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, call 911 or go to our Psychiatric Emergency Center, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Behavioral Healthcare at UNM Health
If you or a loved one is struggling, you are not alone. Children, teens, adults, and seniors can get help for mental health and substance use conditions at the UNM Health. Please see the links above to learn more about our programs.
Therapy at Your Medical Clinic
We offer brief, evidence-based psychotherapy service in many UNM Health primary care and specialty medical clinics. These services are available to patients who already receive care at those clinics. If you are interested in seeing a behavioral health therapist where you get your medical care, ask your care team at that location.
Neuropsychological Assessment
We offer pediatric and adult neuropsychological assessment for medical and treatment purposes only. Testing must be requested by a UNM Health referring provider. We are not accepting outside referrals for neuropsychology services at this time.
Interpreter and Language Services
Interpreter services are free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you or a family member are more comfortable speaking a language other than English, we can provide an interpreter in person, by phone, or by video. UNM Health contracts with outside interpreter vendors covering more than 200 languages. To learn more, visit Interpreter Language Services.
