Classical Hematology Team
Our blood disorders team treats people with noncancerous blood disorders, bone marrow disorders, and certain blood cancers called myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). This field is called classical hematology. The UNM Cancer Center classical hematology program is the only program in the state that focuses solely on diagnosing and treating these disorders.
Our team works with dedicated pathologists, pharmacists, a special coagulation lab, and our Transplant and Cellular Therapies program. Together, they provide the most advanced diagnosis and treatments for a wide range of disorders including:
- Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia
- Systemic mastocytosis
- Antiphoholipid antibody syndrome
- Myeloproliferative neoplasm including essential thrombocythemia, polycythemia Vera and myelofibrosis.
- Venous blood clots
- Cancer associated thrombosis and cancer/cancer therapy associated hematological complications
- Hematological autoimmune disorders such as ITP, TTP, aplastic anemia and hemolytic anemia.
- Rare hematological disorders such as porphyria, HUS and PNH
