The Autism Programs at CDD regularly assist in developing public policy that impacts New Mexicans with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We provide recommendations and technical assistance to state agencies, legislators and others about autism initiatives.
The Autism Programs staff serve on several statewide committees and task forces to ensure that the needs of individuals with autism and their families are considered by state decision makers.
The Autism Programs sponsor Partners in Policy Making, an intensive leadership program for individuals with disabilities, family members and community members. The goal of the program is to create future leaders and advocates in New Mexico who can in partnership work towards positive change in New Mexico for the disability community. The model is based on a national curriculum that has been replicated throughout the United States and in different parts of the world.
