Orthotics & Prosthetics
The Orthotic and Prosthetic department was established in the original Carrie Tingley Hospital (CTH) in 1937 in Hot Springs (now Truth or Consequences), NM. Since then, Carrie Tingley hospital has become part of University of New Mexico and UNM Hospitals. UNMH/CTH Orthotics and & Prosthetics department works collaboratively with doctors, therapists, and case managers to evaluate, design, and supervise the fabrication of orthotic and prosthetic devices.
UNMH/CTH’s facility is accredited with the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABCOP) and the practitioners all hold certifications with ABCOP. The clinic utilizes the newest technologies in the field of O&P including 3-D scanning and CAD modification software. There is a full production O&P fabrication laboratory on site with a staff of highly trained technicians and support staff. CTH O&P is committed to providing custom and off-the-shelf devices and providing patient education and follow up. The CTH O&P department serves the Carrie Tingley Hospital Orthopedic and Pediatric Specialty Clinics in addition to UNM Hospital inpatient units, UNM Hospital outpatient clinics and UNMH/CTH outreach clinics.

Our Providers
Frances Berg, CPO
Frances Ann Berg, CPO is an ABC Board certified Orthotist & Prosthetist. She has been in the field for more than 15 years and has experience with many ages and pathologies. She has worked at the Veterans Association Hospitals (VA), Shriners Hospital for Children, and currently Carrie Tingley Children’s Hospital.
Treatment of scoliosis has become a cornerstone of her career. She is one of the only orthotists in the state of New Mexico that is certified in the WCR method of Scoliosis bracing.
In all types of orthoses and prostheses, she strives to provide a functional device that is both beautiful and benefiting of the patient. She helps patients determine and then achieve their own goals.
In her free time, Frances spends time with friends and colleagues, makes pottery, and adopts elderly animals.

Antwaun Burroughs, Manager, Orthotics
Antwaun Burroughs is the Manager of Orthotics and Prosthetics at UNM Carrie Tingley Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With over 17 years of experience in the field, Antwaun Burroughs specializes in providing advanced orthotic and prosthetic care to improve mobility and quality of life for patients. Antwaun Burroughs holds a Master of Health Administration and completed the Orthotics and Prosthetics training through Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Prior to current role, Antwaun Burroughs served for 13 years as an orthotist at UAB Hospital. In addition to clinical and leadership work, they contributed to the advancement of the profession through more than five years of service on the State of Alabama Board of Directors for Orthotics and Prosthetics.
Kevin Clark, O&P
Kevin Clark is an ABC Board-certified Orthotist & Prosthetist. He graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Health Promotion and completed post-graduate research in Exercise Physiology on the biomechanics and muscle activation during skiing and racing. Kevin received his Master’s in Prosthetics & Orthotics from Northwestern University Prosthetics & Orthotics Center in Chicago.
Kevin competed his orthotic residency at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and his prosthetic residency at the Veteran’s Association Hospital in San Diego. He wrote his master’s thesis on pediatric prosthetic knees and the effect on gait development. In his free time, Kevin enjoys being active outdoors like camping, fishing, skiing, hiking with his wife and dog, and traveling abroad.

Evan Long, CPO
Evan attended undergraduate university at the University of Miami (FL) where he majored in Exercise physiology and biochemistry. Following a Master’s of Science from the University of Florida in applied physiology, Evan joined the US Peace Corps and served for 2.5 years in Mozambique, Africa. Upon his return to the US, Evan applied to O&P schools and attended Georgia Institute of Technology, where he graduated with an MSPO degree in 2018. During his schooling, Evan completed his Master’s thesis investigating energy costs of trans femoral amputee’s while cycling. He completed both Orthotic and Prosthetic residencies at UNM Hospital and is now an ABC certified Prosthetist Orthotist. In his free time Evan is passionate about cycling, hiking, his pets, photography and travel.

Tim Schaefer, CPO
Tim Schaefer has more than 25 years of experience in the field of orthotics and prosthetics, bringing a depth of technical knowledge and patient-centered care to their practice. Tim began his career as a certified technician, gaining extensive hands-on experience in the fabrication and design of orthotic and prosthetic devices before advancing to a clinical role.
Tim Schaefer completed his orthotics and prosthetics education at Century College in the Twin Cities and at the University of Minnesota, where he developed the clinical expertise and training that continue to guide their work today.
For the past nine years, Tim has been part of the team at Carrie Tingley Hospital, where he focus on helping patients improve mobility, independence, and quality of life through customized orthotic and prosthetic care. Tim long-standing experience across both technical and clinical aspects of the profession allows them to approach each patient’s needs with a comprehensive understanding of device design, function, and fit.

Braulia (Judy) White, CPO
Braulia (Judy) White, CPO, is a certified Prosthetist/Orthotist with over 26 years of clinical experience and a unique, lifelong perspective on limb loss. Having been an amputee for over 38 years, Judy blends extensive professional expertise with lived experience to deliver deeply empathetic, patient-centered care.
A graduate of the UT Southwestern Medical Allied School in Dallas, Judy is dedicated to helping individuals regain mobility and significantly improve their quality-of-life following amputation. Her clinical skills are further strengthened by her academic pursuits, including a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of New Mexico (UNM), and specialized training in NMLEND (New Mexico Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities).
As a bilingual practitioner, Judy is dedicated to breaking down communication barriers and providing accessible, high-quality care to a diverse patient population. She remains a passionate advocate for the limb loss community, leveraging her technical knowledge and personal journey to educate, empower, and support her patients every step of the way.
