Are you ready to take your passion for supporting families during the perinatal period to the next level?
The UNM Birth Companion Program invites you to join our FREE and financially supported, comprehensive Doula Traineeship Program this Summer/Fall 2024!
This traineeship program is aimed at new doulas who have already taken a doula training course and would like additional hands-on experience, along with business training, billing, and more!
Our program pairs each trainee with an experienced, community doula mentor for an immersive experience. With personalized guidance, hands- on support opportunities, and targeted classroom training, you'll gain the skills and confidence you need to excel as a doula.
Program Highlights
The opportunity to support families while pursuing your doula certification
- Targeted Didactic Training
Engage in 16 hours of classroom content designed to transition you to independent practice. Topics may include Medicaid enrollment, billing procedures, EMR documentation, business management, CPR, HIPAA compliance, birth equity, trauma-informed care, perinatal mental health, support for substance use, and handling perinatal loss. You'll also build a supportive community with your peers.
- Weekly One-on-One Mentorship
Enjoy weekly personalized sessions with your mentor, where you’ll receive guidance, share best practices, and have opportunities for debriefing and support as you refine your skills.
- Mentored Perinatal Support
Work alongside your mentor to support three families during the perinatal period. You'll provide up to five prenatal or postpartum visits and continuous support during labor and birth, gaining invaluable experience and confidence through real- world practice and feedback.
For Your Participation In This Program, You Will Receive A Stipend For Living Expenses Of Up To $4,000 To Cover Your Time While Supporting Families In The Perinatal Period And Didactic Time.
Timeline
- June 2024: For best consideration apply by June 18th, 2024.
- Deadline: June 20th August 1 - November 30, 2024: Training period.
- December 2024: Program completion
