Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Collaborative Charter for UNM Medical Group, Inc. (UNMMG)
Preamble
This Charter serves as a commitment by UNMMG Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Collaborative to actively foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion among our physicians, staff (teammates), students, and patients. We believe that diversity enriches our institutional excellence in care and service.
Objectives
- Diversity: To actively recruit and retain a diverse workforce at all levels of our organization.
- Equity: To ensure fair treatment, opportunity, and advancement for all, while striving to identify and eliminate barriers.
- Inclusion: To create an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered.
Expectations
Institutional Recommendations
- Leadership Commitment: Senior leadership shall actively champion DEI initiatives.
- Transparency and Accountability: Regularly share data on our DEI efforts and achievements.
Provider Recommendations
- Cultural Competence: Providers should engage in ongoing education about cultural differences and sensitivities.
- Patient Care: Providers should deliver equitable care, irrespective of a patient's race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.
- Mentorship and Sponsorship: Actively engage in mentorship and sponsorship of underrepresented groups within the medical community.
Staff Recommendations
- Open Communication: UNM Medical Group, Inc. has an open-door policy for all teammates. Teammates are encouraged to support the mission of the DEI Collaborative by bringing forward concerns, questions, and opportunities for learning without fear of retaliation or retribution.
- Concerns, questions, or opportunities may be communicated in the following ways:
- Speaking to your leader or department head
- Emailing UNMMGDEI@unmmg.org, which will be received by all members of the DEI Collaborative.
- Emailing DearGary@unmmg.org or using the form, which can be found on the UNMMG intranet site, to be received by the administration office.
- All concerns, issues, comments, etc., will be reviewed and carefully considered by the Collaborative.
- Concerns, questions, or opportunities may be communicated in the following ways:
- Learning Central: Annual Learning Central training should be taken seriously. Teammates are also encouraged to pursue additional opportunities to grow their DEI knowledge.
Collaborative Recommendations
- Meeting Attendance: DEI Collaborative members are expected to attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled meetings.
- DEI Ambassador: Each Collaborative member is expected to serve as an ambassador of the Collaborative and actively participate in functions and initiatives.
- Members shall cultivate and encourage an inclusive environment for all UNM Medical Group, Inc. team members and the community we serve.
- Members shall lead by example and adhere to the mission of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Implementation Strategies
- Data Collection: Baseline data on current DEI state will be collected and analyzed.
- Training: DEI training is mandatory for all providers and staff.
- Feedback Loop: Open channels for reporting issues related to discrimination, bias, or unfair practices.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress.
- Training: All UNM Medical Group, Inc. teammates are expected to complete mandatory DEI training through Learning Central. Additional training is available, and teammates are encouraged to complete those to support their own personal growth.
Review
This Charter will be reviewed annually by the dedicated DEI Collaborative to ensure its effectiveness and relevance.
