Kathleen Cahill

Executive Director, Clinical Operations

Joining the UNM Medical Group in September of 2019, Kathleen Cahill is a native New Mexican bringing executive-level healthcare experience to UNMMG. Her 30-year career demonstrates progressive responsibilities in all aspects of for-profit hospital operations. Her expertise includes cross-functional leadership, business and competitive intelligence, mergers and acquisitions, and extensive experience in joint venture development and implementation.

Cahill spearheaded the successful opening of two acute-care hospitals; developed and implemented aggressive strategies designed to build medical staff membership and bond loyalties; managed physician redirection, recruitment and retention enhancing physician and hospital relations; analyzed workflows and re-designed operational and clinical process resulting in new product-line development and profitable “Centers of Excellence”.

Throughout her career, Cahill has won numerous corporate awards including “Hospital CEO of the Year” in 2002 and 2008. In 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008, her hospital received the “Quality Hospital of the Year” award; and in 2008 the “Top Performing Hospital of the Year” award. Consistently achieving high physician satisfaction scores, her hospitals were recognized by Press Gainey with a “Guardian of Excellence” award for superior achievement in physician satisfaction and by HEALTHSTEAM with an Excellence Thru Insight Award for “Overall Physician Satisfaction”.

Cahill conducts professional seminars, is a national speaker on a variety of healthcare topics, has presented before a Joint Secession of Congress and before the State Legislatures of Texas and Arizona on vital healthcare issues. She has been recognized nationally by the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Literacy Foundation, and the Humane Society of the United States. Locally, she is involved in several community, civic, and professional organizations including Animal Protection of New Mexico, Great Old Broads for Wilderness, Feed America, and No Kid Hungry. 

Cahill’s educational credentials are in Business Administration and Marketing from New Mexico State University; her graduate work in Finance and in Early Childhood Education is from the University of Houston. But her biggest accomplishment is her children. She has two children---a son who is a geologist and living in Denver; and a daughter who is currently in medical school in Arizona studying Integrated Medicine and Nutrition
