Personal Statement

My main area of clinical practice is transplant nephrology. I met all of the requirements mandated by the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) in 2012 to become the primary transplant physician for the kidney transplant program at UNMH. During my time in this position, I have had the opportunity to take care of hundreds of kidney transplant patients, both pre and post-transplantation. It is gratifying to be a part of a patient's journey through the entire transplant process, and this is especially true if the patient is one that I have managed for years while on dialysis, who then pursues transplantation. My primary goal is to continue to improve the quality of care that renal transplant patients receive. To this end, I have worked on many quality initiative projects in the transplant department. I have contributed to the development of policies and protocols in the transplant department and created a handbook on transplantation used by the fellows, faculty, and staff. The handbook instructs readers on infectious complications, surgical complications, immunology basics, medications used in transplantation, and more. I am a member of different transplant-specific committees for UNMH and a member of the New Mexico Advisory Board for New Mexico Donor Services. I am also a member of the American Society of Transplantation and the American Society of Nephrology. I am committed to the transplant program at UNMH and would like to continue to develop and grow our program so that we can provide the highest quality care to those seeking renal transplantation.
