Personal Statement

I am interested in the intersections between Palliative Medicine and both inpatient and outpatient care. I would like to find a way to improve the outpatient Palliative Medicine access in New Mexico and do this as an academic and research process. I enjoy teaching students of all levels and have had medical students work with me in both Primary and Palliative Care arenas as well as hospice. It has become very important to me to improve community awareness around hospice care in general as well as specifically what should be expected in this type of care. This will involve continued education for both lay public and medical providers and care institutions. I have also become increasingly interested in Medical Aid in Dying in our state and how it impacts our unique patient population. It feels very important to teach our emerging physicians how to respond to this request. I am starting to work with Dr. O’Neill on research in the field of Medical Aid in Dying similar to what other states have done and also in targeting our unique patient populations
