Personal Statement

As a former student of UNM, for both undergraduate and medical education, it is exciting to be a part of the evolution of medical education in this institution. Since joining faculty on the Clinical Educator track, I have been able to innovate curriculum affecting multiple levels of learners, while also providing excellent care to the pediatric patients of UNM. I have been able to further my own skills and education while obtaining a Master of Medical Education. I am honored to be involved with the education of medical students, residents, and faculty in my various roles. My scholarly work primarily encompassed medical education, having been involved with research investigating the Pediatric Resident didactics, and currently collaborating with other institutions on investigating medical student predictors of success in Pediatric Residency, and evaluating a new curriculum for Pediatric Residents about early literacy in the setting of the Reach Out and Read program. I serve in the area of General Pediatrics, seeing children in the outpatient setting for both acute and well visits, staffing residents in their Continuity Clinic, and taking care of newborns in the Mother Baby Unit. It is exciting to be able to interact with families in a variety of settings, and be a part of their lives as their children grow.
