Personal Statement

I have a deep passion for Family Medicine and for the broad practice this can offer. I love that I can work at a primary care clinic building relationships with individuals and taking care of their chronic conditions, in the hospital caring for acutely ill patients, and on a Labor and Delivery unit bringing life into the world. I am a strong believer in the importance of primary care across practice settings and across the life span, and I feel very fortunate to be able to provide comprehensive care in multiple arenas for a huge diversity of patients. I have specific interests in Point-of-care Ultrasound, and I teach our family medicine resident physicians this important skill. Much of my educational and scholarly work has focused on Point-of-care Ultrasound curriculum development. I have also been a course director for various mandatory courses for our fourth year medical students at UNM, and I enjoy working in undergraduate medical education. I believe that teaching future physicians the importance of holistic care and healthcare teams is of utmost importance in our medical world today.
