Tarun Girotra, MD

Biography

Dr. Girotra is an assistant professor of neurology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He received his MD from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore, India in 2011. He then went on to Henry Ford Health System in Detroit and finished his neurology residency in 2017. He served as the chief resident during his final year of residency and was also awarded the “Resident of the Year” for his excellent work in clinical neurology and administrative responsibilities during his final year of residency. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Vascular Neurology from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston SC in 2018. During this year, he was able to publish several articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.

Dr. Girotra’s clinical interests include acute stroke care, secondary stroke prevention, telestroke, and medical education. His professional goal is to improve the stroke care for the state of New Mexico and make University of New Mexico the flagship institute for stroke care in the state. Besides improving the quality of stroke care, he is also interested in teaching medical students and residents with the focus on critical thinking and developing an evidence-based approach to patient care.
