Biography
Sylvia Acosta received a B.A. degree in Psychology (2002) from New Mexico State University. She earned her M.S. (2006) and Ph.D. (2008) in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University. She completed her internship and a 2-year postdoctoral psychology fellowship in child clinical psychology at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, USC University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.
Personal Statement
I am an Associate Professor at the Center for Development and Disability. I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) licensed psychologist who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I am the Director of Psychology Training at the CDD and I provide clinical supervision for psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows. I manage the Parent Home Training Program and conduct community trainings to culturally and linguistically diverse clients and audiences. I am also psychology faculty at the New Mexico LEND program. I am passionate about serving bilingual and monolingual Spanish-speaking families.
