What Is Hemophilia?
When your blood lacks enough clotting factors (either factor VIII or factor IX), it's called hemophilia. Hemophilia is genetic and impairs your body’s ability to form blood clots. Mostly an inherited condition, it occurs more often in males than in females.
People with hemophilia can form scabs, but a missing clotting factor makes the scab less stable. Without a tough scab, hemophiliacs tend to bleed longer. Longer bleeding can be dangerous with internal injuries, especially in the brain. Repeated bleeding into the joints can cause joint damage or arthritis.
