Kidney Transplant & Living Kidney Donation

The UNMH Kidney Transplant Program has been dedicated to helping save lives through transplant since it began in 1975.  We evaluate approximately 200 patients per year from all over New Mexico and the surrounding states and perform 40 to 50 transplants a year for both adult and pediatric patients.  UNMH performs both living donor and deceased donor transplants.

We were the first program in New Mexico to offer the Paired Kidney Exchange through the National Kidney Registry as an option for living donor pairs that are hard to match or incompatible for different reasons.  Our team would love to meet you and help you determine whether Kidney Transplant would be right for you!

Through the National Kidney Registry, we also have a paired exchange program established in 2016, and we began living donor transplant via the paired exchange program the following year.
