Message from Co-Directors Dr. Marinaro and Dr. Harkins

Welcome to the Center for Adult Critical Care at the University of New Mexico Hospital. Our team is made up of highly skilled clinicians, educators, and researchers who are dedicated to improving the health and welfare of critically ill patients and their caregivers.

3 Guiding Principles

  • We never argue with the patient in the middle
  • We treat everyone equally and professionally
  • We always say YES!

During the 2020 pandemic, the field of Critical Care underwent a significant transformation, resulting in fundamental changes in our practice. Despite the immense pressure, our Critical Care team remained steadfast and worked together to support the entire UNM mission. Our unwavering dedication and teamwork led to the establishment of our Center in 2022. We are enthusiastic about the future of patient care and look forward to improving the lives of our larger community.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

We value the richness of a diverse community of trainees, staff, physicians and investigators. Through collaboration, education, and active efforts to reinforce a culture of inclusion, our team members strive to: • Respect the dignity of others • Teach and learn from one another • Promote inclusivity in the workplace

We are committed to creating a culture of inclusivity and dignity, where all cultures are celebrated and respected. We actively work towards eliminating any barriers to care and ensuring that everyone who walks through our doors feels seen, heard, and valued. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their background, and we will continue to strive towards this goal every day.
