Personal Statement

Research/Scholarship: I am interested in research related to medical education. I have been co-principal investigator on two HRSA grants for medical education (one for undergraduate and one for preceptor development). In addition I have been a participant in the MES (Medical Education Scholars) Program and participate in scholarly projects developed from that work and other educational work. I directed the MES program for the School of Medicine from 2004-2019. I have also directed the Scholarship in Education Allocation Committee (SEAC) from 2004-2019. This committee reviews and funds internal proposals for educational research and scholarship projects as well as patient safety projects

Teaching: I have strong interests and have been actively involved in medical education at all levels, from medical student through post graduate education, including cardiology fellowship. I have had many leadership roles in medical education as well as extensive hands on experience as a tutor, lecturer, and clinical teacher. I am also interested in research and administration in the area of education.

Service: In addition to my active pursuits of teaching, I have also been very interested and productive in the area of patient care. My major areas of interest include general care of the cardiac patient in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
