Biography

Dr. Kulik is the Vice-Chair for Quality and Hospital Affairs in the Department of Neurology and the Medical Director of the University of New Mexico Hospital Neuroscience ICU. He currently holds a rank of Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and is the fellowship director for the Vascular Neurology and Pre-residency Fellowship Program. He received his Medical Degree summa-cum laude from Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich, Germany in 2005. Following his medical training, he joined the Cerebral Blood Flow Regulation laboratory at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City as an Associate Scientist. Under the leadership of his Principal Investigator and mentor, Dr. Richard H. Winn, he investigated the central role of astrocytes in the dynamic regulation of cerebral blood flow. Subsequently, he completed his neurology residency at Rochester University Medical Center in Rochester in 2014. He underwent further fellowship training in Vascular Neurology and Neurocritical Care at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis from 2014 through 2017.

He has participated in multiple national and international stroke centered trials and has received travel, societal, and national awards, for example, the Henry - Christian Award for his work on astrocytes in 2011. He currently serves as an active member on multiple committees, for example, the Ethics committee of the Neurocritical Care society, the Quality and Safety task force of the Society for Critical Care Medicine, and several other institutional and regional committees pertaining to Quality of care delivery in the healthcare setting. He has participated in and obtained certificates in several programs centered on Hospital Culture, Patient safety and Quality of Care, for example the Intermountain Advanced Training Program.
