The Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center provides the overall leadership, vision and direction for the UNMCCC.

Position Summary

The UNMCCC Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for providing the overall leadership, vision and direction for the UNMCCC that includes oversight and development of cancer-focused research programs, multidisciplinary clinical service lines, community engagement, and education. In addition, the UNMCCC Director and CEO serves as the Principal Investigator of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center Support grant and is responsible for ensuring that that the UNMCCC retains its designation as an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The UNMCCC Director and CEO reports directly to the UNM HSC EVP/CEO, Dr. Ziedonis, functioning at a level equivalent to and in collaboration with the Deans of the UNM Health Sciences Schools and Colleges (Dean of the School of Medicine, Dean of the College of Population Health, Dean of the College of Nursing, and Dean of the College of Pharmacy). Through membership of the UNM HSC Executive Committee and the UNM Health Systems Executive Committee, the UNMCCC Director and CEO oversees and integrates the cancer mission institution-wide, influencing cancer policies, cancer research, education and training, and clinical practice at the highest levels of UNM, the UNM HSC and the UNM Health System.
